The Executive Director of Bureau of Public Safety, Nana Yaw Akwada says directives by the Interior Minister to arm all Police officers on traffic duty “is not the right thing to do”. According to him, the move is laudable but the officers must go through some “serious training” – adding that Police officers on traffic duty don’t have “good records with the gun” whiles on duty. Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’, Nana Yaw Akwada called on the Police Council to immediately halt the implementation of a directive by the Interior Minister. He explained that, the move will rather worsen the already bad relationship between the public and the police.
